Dictator Dislikes: Honesty

One of the things that really irks me about some of my colleagues is their lack of fight. If you want to be a dictator, take the time to do it right! Never give up, even when the walls of your bunker are crumbling around you! And even if your power is all but withered, do not under any circumstances start speaking the truth after years of disseminating agit-prop. Never let the mask drop, ever, or risk ruining your legacy as a top-notch autocrat. Which is why the recent revelations from Vladimir Putin are particularly disappointing.

All this 'coming clean' is annoying on so many levels. Did no one read chapter 2 of my book? This whole dictatorial project is about YOU, and part of YOU is your image, your following, your personality cult. How can you expect to establish yourself as the larger-than-life or God-like face of nation if you're explaining your bag of tricks while still in power? Do you want your subjects to take a break from surfing the internet and realize you've been duping them all these years? And why would the object of this photo  ever admit to its fraudulent nature?

Well, don't say I didn't warn you. It's not a surprise, at least not to me, that unrest is rearing it's head in Russia. My advice is ... always lie. It's easier to stay respected that way.
